CLE regarding HB19-1263, newly signed into law and effective as of March 1, 2020 in the State of Colorado, Titled "Offense Level For Controlled Substance Possession"

Colorado has made sweeping changes in its drug possession laws - including Schedule I and II substances- corresponding offense levels, convictions, fines, and sentencing guidelines. Colorado has recently enacted these sweeping reforms, and many other states are looking to this as a model for their reform. Additionally, there are grant programs that may provide counties with substance abuse or mental health treatment services, including diversion.

About the Presenter: Aaron Gaddis is a native of Colorado Springs. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science at Colorado State University, in 2002, and then attended the University of Denver law school. After graduation in 2006, Aaron immediately passed the bar exam and began working for the Colorado State Public Defender’s Office.
