LLP Committee

Welcome from the LLP Committee!

Co-chairs: Laura Landon & Kyle Melchior

Email: llpcommittee@rockymtnparalegal.org

Laura Landon of Cox Baker & Page, LLC serves as paralegal and case manager to multi-year Superlawyer James S. Bailey and Rising Star Riley Madden. Their practice focuses primarily on complex family law litigation. Laura also has experience in probate and estate planning law.

With a Bachelor’s Degree in Legal Studies and 14 years of domestic law experience, Laura is well-versed in Colorado family law matters and intends to apply this knowledge and experience to the Licensed Legal Paraprofessional (LLP) profession. To that end, Laura has been active as a volunteer in the pre-planning Colorado Supreme Court sub-committees associated with this initiative and has testified before that Court in favor of the program. Her involvement with RMPA as a co-chair to the LLP Committee is an exciting next step and she is eager for the opportunity to serve paralegals looking to advance their career into the LLP profession.

Kyle Melchior (he/him) of Gendelman Klimas, Ltd., is the Lead Paralegal where he supports Laurence Gendelman and Hannah Leisman in their practice of family law, trust and estates, and probate litigation. Kyle holds an Associate of Applied Science in Paralegal Studies from the Arapahoe Community College's ABA accredited program. Prior to joining Gendelman Klimas, Ltd., Kyle specialized in family law, criminal defense, trust and estates, and probate litigation.

Outside of the office, Kyle volunteers his time to the Rocky Mountain Paralegal Association, where he sits on the board as the Managing Director of Policy & National Affairs for the States of Colorado, Utah, South Dakota, Wyoming, and New Mexico. Kyle currently serves as a co-chair to the LLP committee and spends his time advocating for the initiative. Melchior has since testified before the Colorado Supreme Court, provided public comments, and appeared on local new's stories to endorse the licensure. Kyle is excited to assist prospective LLPs in their career and to further the fight for access to justice efforts.

The LLP Committee seeks to serve RMPA members by:

Encouraging and supporting current paralegals and other legal paraprofessionals in their pursuit to LLP licensure;

Educating members as to developments in the roll-out of the LLP profession – including but not limited to educational options, ways to obtain the required experience, and administration milestones such as the application process, testing dates, and deadlines;

Endorsing and advancing the LLP profession by way of advocacy at the Colorado Bar Association, Attorney Regulation Counsel, Colorado universities and institutions, and amongst professionals who work in any family law capacity;

Creating partnerships and brokering positive relationships with law firms, attorneys, Colorado universities and institutions, and other professionals who desire to work alongside, hire, or provide internships to prospective and current LLPs;

Acting as a liaison between the various committees and organizations connected to the LLP profession to ensure a productive flow of information and cooperation; and

Providing ongoing support to LLPs who have achieved licensure, whether their career path is at a law firm or launching their own business.

The LLP Committee is excited to provide these services to RMPA members and to advance the LLP profession in Colorado.

RMPA has proudly partnered with the Community College of Denver to assist LLP candidates in their pursuit of an LLP license.
